Both are considered as different languages with same origin - Maharashtra - Prakrit.
Both Languages can be written in Modi & Devanagri. Also both are rich Indian languages.
As Marathi has different dialects like Deshi, Varadhi, Puneri, Kolhapuri etc; Konkani has its own dialects too.
Major dialects of Konkani are : Antruzi, Sashti, Bardeshi, Karwari, Malvani, Chitpavani, Karhadi, Mangalorean.
Marathi and Konkani is not at all same, as both has their own dialects and regions of speakers.
Konkani is also spoken in parts of Tanjore by Tajore Marathis of Tamil Nadu, Belgaum Marathis of Karnataka, Telangana border areas and Indori marathi spoken in Madhya Pradesh.
The source of both languages is similar.
Difference is as much as - Chimps & Human (Not degrading any language). The ancestor is same but the outcome is different.
Influence on every dialect is different.
Mumbai Konkani has influence of Marathi on Agri, Koli, Vadvali, Samvedi Konkani dialects.
Kukna Konkani has an influence of Gujarathi.
Malvani - Konkani has influence of Marathi, Malvani has its own dialects based on regions, the south most part of sindhudurga (mostly malvan, vengurla, sawantwadi, dodamarg) having different pronunciations as compared to the north most part of sindhudurga (kankavali, kudal, vaibhavwadi, rajapur).
Goan Konkani has many different dialects too. Konkani spoken in North Goa, South Goa are different.
Mangalorean Konkani spoken in undivided Dakshin Kinara ( South Kanara / Dakshina Kannada) - Has influence of Tulu and Kannada. Whereas, Konkani speakers of Uttar Kinara (North Kanara / Uttara Kannad ) have influence of kannada language.
Even Muslims of North Kanara speaks Nawayati Konkani and Ratnagiri muslims speaks Bankoti.
Christians also have their own accent and dialect.
According to caste Siddi and Kunbi has also speak different dialects
Huge chunk of Konkanis are also found in the pockets of Kochi (Ernakulam), Calicut in Kerala, Hyderabad in Telangana, in the UT OF Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore of Karnataka, above the western ghats districts of Pune, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara in Maharashtra, Belgaum, Shimoga, Chikmagalur, Sakeshpura(Hassan) and Kodagu of Karnataka.
Even outside India Konkanis are found in Karachi Pakistan, Portugal, London, U.S, Middle East etc
Konkani is spoken by 70 communities including Christians and Muslims
Language has spread over more than 800km of Coastal Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat & Goa.
